Work permit rules

Know your limits before you apply

Danish work permit rules vary by visa type. We surface eligibility based on standard restrictions — always confirm with SIRI or your university before starting work.

EU / EEA Student

Citizens of EU or EEA countries studying in Denmark. Full work rights with no hour restrictions under Danish law.

Max 20 hrs/week

No formal cap — 20 hrs/wk shown as a practical guideline for student workload balance.

Non-EU Student Visa

Non-EU nationals holding a Danish student residence permit. Permitted to work up to 15 hours per week during term time.

Max 15 hrs/week

Full-time work permitted during June, July, and August.

PhD / Researcher Permit

International PhD students and researchers enrolled at a Danish institution. Work permit is tied to the specific host institution and project.

Max 20 hrs/week

Additional paid work outside the PhD project may require a separate authorisation from SIRI.
